Claude Max and Team now include monthly API credits: how they work
$100 on Max 5x, $200 on Max 20x, up to $500 pooled on Team. What the credits cover, what they don't (Claude Code), and how to claim them.
Anthropic now gives Max and Team subscribers monthly credits for the Claude Platform API, so you can build your own apps and agents without adding a payment method. ClaudeDevs says the credits work on any Claude model, including Haiku 5.5, in your own code or in third-party harnesses.
How much you get
- Max 5x: $100 a month.
- Max 20x: $200 a month.
- Team: $20 per Standard seat and $100 per Premium seat, pooled into one balance capped at $500 a month. Anthropic's example: three Standard and two Premium seats get $260.
- Discounted Team plans (Nonprofit, Scientists) get the same as Team. Free, Pro and Enterprise plans aren't eligible.
What they cover, and what they don't
Per Anthropic's docs, the credits cover the Claude API, Claude Managed Agents, the Claude Agent SDK and the playground. They do not cover Claude Code or extra usage in the Claude apps, and they can't be used on AWS, Bedrock, Google Cloud or Microsoft Foundry. They also don't change your usage limits in Claude or Claude Code.
The fine print
- Unused credits expire at the end of each billing cycle and don't roll over.
- New subscribers can claim after 7 days on an eligible plan.
- Each plan links to one Console organization, and you can't change it yourself, so pick the one you'll actually build in.
- When the credits run out and you have no other credits, API requests stop until the next refill. Nothing is charged to your Claude plan.
To claim, go to Settings > Billing on claude.ai (Organization settings > Billing on Team) and link a Claude Console organization in the API credits section.
