Codex & Claude reset trackers compared: why counts differ

Quick answer: Codex reset trackers disagree because they count different things, not because they saw different resets. On the morning of 18 October 2026 the trackers we checked showed between 42 and 64 Codex resets for roughly the same period. The gap comes from four choices: posts or days, announced or completed resets, banked resets in or out, and when the history starts. We run one of these trackers, Retro AI Tracker, so keep that in mind. Every number below links to the site it came from.

How we checked

We opened each site on 18 October 2026 between 06:32 and 06:43 UTC and wrote down what it showed. This is not a ranking, and the numbers will change with the next reset. Our test case was Tibo's "Done" post on 17 October at 21:12 UTC, which completed Day 13 of OpenAI's 28-day series.

Codex reset trackers

• codex-resets.com: 63 entries, one per announcement post, including 6 banked resets. Already showed the 17 October "Done". Browser, Telegram and email alerts and a free API. No forecasts.
• codex-reset.com: 54 global resets plus 10 banked. It times resets with its own account monitor, so it logged 17 October at 20:41 UTC, while its headline still showed 15 October as the last verified reset. Shows reset odds, with a backtest.
• resetbeacon.com: 52 confirmed resets plus 8 banked, with an archived copy of every source post and published corrections. Had not confirmed 17 October yet when we checked.
• ModelYard: keeps 27 planned resets apart from 33 completed ones (11 directly verified), since October 2025. Last completed reset shown: 15 October.
• quotaalert.com: 82 source-linked posts. Of those, 70 are full-reset posts and 42 use wording that says the reset was done. Showed 17 October as confirmed. Shows reset odds.
• nextreset.net: 64 announcement records, banked and compensation entries included. Listed 17 October as the latest reset.
• whenreset.cn: 44 direct resets plus 16 banked-reset posts since 5 November 2025, in English and Chinese, with an open CSV. Showed 17 October as announced. Shows a 72-hour outlook.
• Codex Reset Observatory: 41 resets plus 13 banked since May 2026, recording both announcement and completion times. Open source (MIT), Japanese first. Shows reset odds.
• aiidelist.com: 55 global plus 10 banked resets, with average and median gaps. Showed 17 October. No forecasts.

Claude reset trackers

• claude-resets.com: 14 Claude resets, counting the 22 September banked reset; limit changes are listed but not counted. CC BY 4.0 data, RSS, a calendar feed and 27 languages. The most complete Claude-only tracker we found.
• claudereset.org: 13 regular resets in its data since April, with the Max-only reset of 4 September marked as partial and the 22 September banked reset left out. Shows reset odds.
• isitresetyet.com: Codex, Claude and Grok in one place. 58 direct Codex resets plus 7 banked, and 14 Claude resets plus 1 banked. Shows an estimated next reset.

Where Retro AI Tracker fits

We count days, not posts: a day counts once an original post reports a reset as completed. That gives 42 Codex reset days since 17 September 2025 and 13 Claude reset days since 16 April 2026. Announcements, banked resets and reminders stay in the log (123 Codex entries in all) but are never counted. We cover both tools, link every entry to its post, make no forecasts, and publish the data free under CC BY 4.0 as a JSON API and RSS, in English and Polish.

That rule is stricter than most, which is why our Codex number is the lowest. QuotaAlert's 42 posts with "done" wording match our 42 days, though we have not compared the two lists entry by entry. Month-by-month, weekday and time-of-day numbers are on our reset statistics page.

Why the numbers differ

• Posts, events or days. An announcement and its "Done" post are two posts but one reset day. QuotaAlert counts 82 posts; we count 42 days.
• Announced or completed. Some trackers list announcement posts; others wait for a completion post. For 17 October, some dated the reset by the 16:20 UTC announcement and others by the 21:12 UTC "Done".
• Banked resets in or out. A banked reset is a credit you redeem yourself. Codex trackers show 6 to 16 of them, inside their total or next to it. For Claude, the 22 September credit is why one tracker says 14 and another 13.
• Partial resets. Claude's 4 September reset applied to Max users only. Some trackers count resets for part of the user base; others don't.
• Start date. whenreset.cn starts in November 2025 and the Observatory in May 2026, so earlier resets are not in their totals. Reset Beacon uses US Pacific dates, so its first reset is on 16 September, which is 17 September in UTC.
• Timing and lag. The morning after a reset, several trackers had not confirmed it yet. codex-reset.com times resets by watching its own accounts, about half an hour before the official post.
• Copies. Some sites reuse another tracker's data, so the same count shows up more than once.
