OpenAI releases GPT-6.1 Terra for fast computer use at a lower price
GPT-6.1 Terra is a fast, efficient model for visual reasoning, computer use and natural writing. It is available in ChatGPT Work and Codex on paid plans and in the API at $1 / $5 per million input and output tokens.
OpenAI released GPT-6.1 Terra on 26 October 2026. The company describes it as a fast, efficient model for visual reasoning, precise computer use and clear, natural writing: it can work out what is on screen and act across the browser, the desktop and other apps. OpenAI's examples include matching product photos to catalog entries, interpreting technical drawings and drafting text.
In ChatGPT Work and Codex the model is available on Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Edu plans and is picked from the model list; Work also supports it on mobile. It is not offered in regular ChatGPT chat and does not support UAE inference residency, and Enterprise access depends on workspace settings. In a post on X, OpenAI's Tibo Sottiaux wrote that it gives 2X more usage than GPT-6.1 Sol across the API and subscriptions.
In the API, gpt-6.1-terra works with the Responses and Chat Completions endpoints and costs $1 per million input tokens and $5 per million output tokens, with cached input at $0.05. It has a 1,050,000-token context window, up to 128,000 output tokens and a knowledge cutoff of 1 June 2026. Prompts over 272K input tokens are billed at higher rates, and tool calling requires the Responses API.
