What is the five-hour limit? Claude, Codex and Muse Code

Claude

Anthropic's pricing FAQ says every plan's limits reset on a rolling five-hour session window, with weekly limits on top for paid plans. How much fits in a session depends on conversation length and complexity, the model, the features you use and the effort level. Pro gets at least 5x Free per session, Max 5x or 20x Pro, and Team seats 1.25x or 6.25x Pro. Claude, Claude Desktop and Claude Code all draw from the same pool. When Opus 5.5 launched on 22 September 2026, ClaudeDevs said five-hour session limits in Claude Code went up 20%.

Codex

OpenAI's Codex pricing page gives estimated local messages per five-hour period for Plus and Standard Business, for example 15 to 160 with GPT-6.1 Sol. These are estimates, not fixed message limits: model choice, context, reasoning, tool use and caching all change how fast you use the allowance. Pro plans currently have no five-hour limit.

Muse Code

Meta's Everyday Usage plan ($5/month) includes 10 to 50 prompts every five hours, and the higher plans give 5x, 20x or 80x that.

When you hit it

• Claude: wait for the window to reset, upgrade, turn on usage credits, or apply a limit reset if you have one. Check Settings > Usage or /usage in Claude Code.
• Codex: buy credits on Plus or Pro, use an API key at API rates, or wait. Check the usage dashboard or /status.
• Muse Code: upgrade or wait for the limit to refresh.
