Claude renames Max 20x to Ultra and drops its 5-hour limit for verified accounts

Anthropic renamed its Max plans: Max 5x is now Max at $100 a month and Max 20x is now Ultra at $200 a month. Verified Ultra accounts no longer have a 5-hour limit, starting with most existing subscribers, while weekly limits stay the same.

On 30 October 2026 Anthropic renamed its two Max plans. Max 5x is now simply Max and still costs $100 a month; Max 20x is now Ultra and still costs $200 a month. Anthropic says subscribers do not need to do anything.

The bigger change is to usage limits. Anthropic is removing the 5-hour limit for verified Ultra accounts, starting the same day with most existing subscribers. Newer accounts keep a temporary 5-hour limit until they are verified, which Anthropic says helps prevent fraud and abuse, and they get an email when it is lifted. Weekly limits do not change.

The updated pricing page describes the plans this way: Max gives 5x the usage of Pro every 5 hours and every week, while Ultra gives 10x the weekly usage of Pro with no 5-hour limit for verified accounts. Both include Fable for up to half of the weekly limit and a monthly credit for the Claude Platform API, $100 on Max and $200 on Ultra. The page also notes that Anthropic may still limit usage in other ways, such as weekly and monthly caps.
